This must sound like an utterly ridiculous question, but it isn’t, and I hope you will think about this carefully as we proceed.
It Is For God
This would seem to be the most obvious answer to the question. God tells us to worship Him9I Chron. 16:29; Ps. 100:2; Matt. 4:1; John 4:24; Heb. 12:28). We worship Him. The worship must be for God’s benefit. But does the Creator of the universe really need us to worship Him? We are nothing in comparison to Him(Ps. 8:4-8). He could create a whole other universe if He wanted to by simply uttering the words(Gen. 1). And let’s not forget that He is being worshipped constantly in heaven by beings who are far greater than we are, and who are far better at worshipping Him than we are(Rev. 4).
Ego?
Some might think that God just has a really big ego, but that makes no sense. If God has such a large ego, why doesn’t He compel everyone to worship Him? As it is, most people do not worship Him(Matt. 7:13). So, clearly that is not the case.
It Is For Our Benefit
This is the actual reason God tells us to worship Him. He knows it is what is best for us. And if you think about it, that is what God always does. He always tells us what is best for us, not what is best for Him. If He wanted anything, He could speak it into existence. But in terms of what is best for us, He tells us what is best for us, then lets us choose. So make the choice to listen to Him. Worship Him. It will benefit you. It will bring you closer to Him. It will help you to understand who you are and Who He is.

Thank you Gregg for this message. I do believe that God placed us here on this earth with "free will" to see who TRULY wants to know him and of Jesus.
